Crucifixion
Moscow 1500
From Trinity cathedral of the Pavlo-Obnorskii Monastery near Vologda.
Agroup of three holy women appear behind the Mother of God. There are also two figures of weeping angels above the central arm of the Cross. John the Theologian is holding his hand on his chest rather than on his chin which is his normal stance, a gesture of sorrow. There is also the allegorical representations of the Old Testament Church flying away from the Crucifixion, and the New Testament Church flying towards Chist, which are both small female figures accompanied by angels.
