Is A Monastery?
The Monastery is a place where Christian souls
that desire to dedicate themselves totally to God take refuge,
occupy themselves constantly with God, pray unceasingly, and
glorify His Name while simultaneously they cleanse themselves
internally and strive to become holy.
When a man approached Jesus and asked “Teacher,
what do I do to inherit eternal life?’’ Jesus
answered him, ‘’You know the commandments:
Do not kill, Do no commit adultery, Honor thy father and mother.....”
The man said to Him, ’Teacher, all these I have
observed from my youth.’’ And Jesus said,
‘’One thing thou lackest. Go, sell what you
have, and give it to the poor, and you will have treasure
in heaven, and come, follow me.’’ ( Mark
In these Bible verses we find the foundation and the blessing
from God for the Monastic life. This life was also blessed
by our Holy Orthodox Church and placed it in a separate order.
Hundreds and thousands of monastics sanctified their lives,
became Holy and are the fountain of sanctification for the
entire Orthodox Church.
With their hands raised up to the heavens daily they balance
the scale of God’s Justice, entreat mercy for themselves
and the entire world.
The Monastery keeps the faith pure, and the traditions of
Remaining unifluenced from wordly spirits, it maintains the
sterling life and the life of the Saints of our Church. The
Holy Monastics become the charismatic teachers of the faithful
people, they heal illnesses of the soul and the body, they
comfort the souls, and they guide them to their personal salvation.
